SLAY THE RUNWAY
Thursday, June 20, 2019 | 66 Boerum Place | Brooklyn, NY
Doors open: 6:30 p.m. | Showtime: 7 p.m. | Cocktails for a Cause: 8 p.m.
SLAY THE RUNWAY represents both a moment of transformation and celebration.
Beyond a single event and night, this is a 12-week journey where our foster youth come together to face their challenges head-on, work through trauma and uncover the confidence and belief that exists within each of them.
Their transformation then manifests itself on the runway, as they present their training and new-found self-esteem under the spotlight. But it also continues way beyond the show, positively impacting all other aspects of their lives as they move into adulthood.

Why We're Here |
New York City is a place of unbelievable opportunity and wealth. But despite that, many children and families aren't able to take advantage of it. They can't even begin to think about what their future could look like. They're dead set on the unending obstacles that continue to pop up before them.
But despite that, these kids and families possess something powerful—maybe even as a byproduct of this city. They have grit. They have resilience. And with a little support, they can tackle these unimaginable obstacles. We owe it to these kids and to this city to understand the need and provide support in all its forms. The need is local, real and urgent. |
EACH YEAR, 5,000 CHILDREN ARE SEPARATED FROM THEIR FAMILIES IN NEW YORK.
NATIONALLY, ONLY 8% OF FOSTER YOUTH GRADUATE FROM HIGHER EDUCATION.

For 150 years, HeartShare St. Vincent's Services (HSVS) has worked to equalize opportunities for those who need it most.
The agency was founded in 1869 as a home for young working boys—many of whom had no family or had families too poor to care for them. Since then, we have continued to expand our services (and footprint) to meet the evolving needs of children and families within NYC. Today, we are 450 staff members strong, serving over 6,000 New Yorkers each year. Operating across every borough of the city, we provide a comprehensive and holistic set of programming for both children and family dealing with a range of trauma related to family separation.
